An Almost Impossible Decision – The HTC Windows 8X vs. The Huawei Ascend P1 S

HTC Windows 8X vs. The Huawei Ascend P1 SChoosing a new cell phone is a really difficult decision, not least because it’s a pretty expensive purchase. There are just so many questions, which manufacturer do you want? Which operating system? Which model? This isn’t made any easier by the fact that there are an awful lot of great devices on the market nowadays, many of them extremely similar. Good brand names are a great starting point for buying a phone, but even they aren’t always reliable. For example, HTC are highly regarded for producing good quality phones. Huawei, on the other hand, doesn’t even register on most people’s lists of mobile manufacturers. The truth is though, that Huawei have started to make some pretty decent devices, plus they tend to be cheaper than their competitors. We put Huawei to the test, by comparing its Ascend P1 S model to HTC’s Windows 8X phone. We were surprised how difficult it was to choose between them. We did come up with a winner in the end, but it was a really tough choice…

Why You Should Go For the HTC Windows 8X…

Okay, the HTC is a Windows phone, and for some people that’s an important part of the decision making process. But it does have a lot to offer. Firstly, it has a far better screen. The display on the 8X has eighty per cent higher resolution, as well as around thirty per cent more PPI (pixels per inch). This results in a screen that’s noticeably brighter, more colourful and has a sharper image than that of the Ascend. You also get more internal storage on the 8X, which comes with 16 GB of memory as opposed to the 4 GB of memory on the Huawei. That means more music, photos and videos on your device. Finally, the HTC has faster maximum data speeds, which means quicker downloading and web pages that open faster. The 8X definitely has something to offer…

Why You Should Go For the Huawei Ascend P1 S…

The Huawei is an Android phone, which means you’re connected to Android’s App market, making downloading and installing new programmes and games easy and convenient. It also means that you can run multiple applications at the same time, talking on Skype and reading the internet news, for example. The Ascend does have better Bluetooth support, running Bluetooth 3.0 rather than the older 2.1 version on the 8X. For users who frequently utilise Bluetooth devices such as hands free, this means faster data transfer and that connecting to Bluetooth devices sucks less power from your battery. Finally, the Ascend is both thinner and smaller than the 8X, making it a little more portable.

Declaring a Winner…

This is a really difficult decision. Both phones have their advantages and they really seem to balance each other out pretty well. In the end, we think that the increased screen quality and large amount of storage space give the HTC Windows 8X a slight edge; having said that though the Huawei Ascend P1 S is a great device and runs generally slightly cheaper than the HTC. It’s a bit of a toss-up, but the 8X just wins out in the end.
